After Uzair, a man from the children of Israel, passed by a town which had tumbled over its roofs, he wondered at “how such a town could ever return to life ..” So, as a practical demonstration, Allah caused him to die and after 100 years, He SWT returns him back to life.
He then witnesses the remains of his donkey – which had died and become dust – forming before his very eyes, as its bones assembled into a standing skeleton, then was coated with a layer of muscle, then its nerves came together, then veins were brought forth .. all the way until it was finally clothed with skin .. before his very eyes! Upon this, Allah mentions:
“When this was clearly shown to him, he said:
.. “I now know that Allah is able to do all things.”
After telling us that regardless of whether we’ve concealed something within us or made it apparent to others, Allah knows it just as well … how does Allah conclude the verse?
“ .. and Allah is able to do all things” .. ya subhan’Allah
After telling us that if we were to be touched by any harm, none could remove it except He .. Allah SWT ends the verse with:
“ .. and if He touches you with good, thenHe is able to do all things”
After telling us that the unseen affairs of the heavens and the earth are known well and clear to Him .. and that the arrival of the Day of Resurrection is a blink of an eye away .. or even closer! With what words does the Most High end this blessed verse with?
“ .. indeed, Allah is able to do all things!”
After Allah had used the analogy of the dead earth in describing our resurrection, and how Allah sends rain onto this barren land, causing its crops to grow from a soil which was previously dead .. Allah then informs us that the One who did this can most certainly bring back the dead of humans .. and closes the verse with:
“ .. He is able to do all things”
After speaking about His Kingdom .. how He gives its to whom He wills, and removes it from whom He wills, and gives honour to whom He wills and debases whom He wills .. how does Allah SWT conclude this heart trembling verse? .. That’s right ..
“ .. truly, you Allah are able to do all things”
On that note, if you had asked any Arab prior to the worldwide revolutions which are currently sweeping through the Muslim world: “If change was ever to occur, where do you think it’d start?” The answer would almost always be: “Well, I can tell you something else: Where it certainly won’t start! .. Tunisia!”. As per Egypt?! Forget about it.
Yet, look carefully at how Allah SWT works .. He decrees that change is to start from no place other than Tunisia itself .. and then followed by Egypt!! .. Why do you think this is?
To renew the eman of the weak! To refresh the certainty of the doubtful!
.. and to remind those who were asleep ..
That Allah is able to do all things !!
[Stay with me for just one more moment]
History relates to us an incident which occurred during the times of Islamic Spain, in “al-Andalus”/Andalusia. There were three particular youth who worked as transporters of goods, taking it from the market place to the homes of buyers. Humble work, minimal skills, simple lives ..
On one particular night, after a long days work, the three sit together for a snack and chat away as people do. Just for fun, one of them, al-Mansoor Ibn Abi ‘Amir, says:
“Imagine if I was the khaleefah (the leader of the Muslim Ummah) .. what would you both ask of me?”
Immediately, they both burst into laughter .. mocking his wishful thinking. But he insists: “Look .. just for the sake of argument .. If I ever was, what would you want me to give you?”
So, one of his friends says (since day dreaming is free!): “I would ask you for a stable full of horses ..” “What else?” He replies. “ …and .. beautiful gardens”. “Anything else?” He repeats. “ .. and .. 100 servants too .. and also 100,000 dinar in gold”
“What else?” he asks. “That’s about it” he responds.
As per his other friend, he asks: “what about you? What would you ask of me?”
But he wasn’t willing to day dream with his friend. He responds: “I would ask of you to place me on a donkey backwards .. and then bring another person to walk besides me, shouting: “Oh people, this man is crazy!”
.. he is mocking him.
Anyhow .. the days pass by and al-Mansoor leaves his job and starts working for the army. He continued being promoted until he became a royal guard, standing at the door of the Khaleefah. Soon later, the Khaleefah passes away, leaving behind him a young son, Hisham, whose adolescence didn’t qualify him for his father’s position. A council of leaders was thus formed, al-Mansoor being one of them. Eventually, by the grace of Allah, and then by the patience, perseverance and determination of al-Mansoor, he finds himself occupying the thrown of Khilafah ..
Years upon years pass .. but subhan’Allah, al-Mansoor hasn’t forgotten .. How could he forget?
He requests: “Bring me so and so” … his two friends.
They searched for them and found them in the exact same place, carrying out the exact same duties. They are taken to stand before al-Mansoor and he says to the first:
“What did you ask for?” .. He responds: “ .. For horses, gardens, 100 servants and 10,000 dinars worth of gold”
He gives him just that ..
He then asks the second: “What did you ask for?”
He says: “Oh leader of the believers .. I’ve really forgotten, please excuse me ..”
But al-Mansoor refuses and insists that he repeats what he asked for .. So he did ..
The Khaleefah then orders for his wish to be fulfilled: To be placed on a donkey backwards and accompanied with another person to pull his ride around the streets, calling out: “This man is crazy!”
Now, people started to intercede for him, saying: “Oh leader of the believers, you are now the Khaleefah and Allah has fulfilled your dream. You have made your point so why don’t you just let him go?”
“ .. For one reason only ..
.. So that he learns .. that Allah is able to do all things”
Dear reader ..
Just before you despair of the arrival of that pious spouse .. just before you give up looking for employment .. just before you deem your sins greater than Allah’s mercy .. just before the sorrow of losing a beloved one overwhelms you .. just before the words of “there is no way out” leave your mouth
.. remember that your Lord is Great .. and that He is, without doubt, able to do all things.
